Variational, the Arbitrum derivatives protocol behind the Omni trading app, said on September 23 that its VAR token launches in Q4 2026. The genesis airdrop is 32 percent of supply, paid pro rata to points holders and fully unlocked at the token generation event (TGE), the day a token first trades. No exact date, supply number or points total has been published.
Where it stands
The announcement moved the launch by a quarter. Bitrue's write-up of the post says the TGE had been planned for Q3 2026 and is now Q4, and that weekly points distributions continue until the TGE at 150,000 points a week. One point is the minimum to qualify for the genesis allocation. Tokens that are never claimed are burned.
The split is unusual in one respect. Half of the supply goes to the team and investors, locked for 12 months after the TGE and then unlocking linearly over at least three years. The community share is 32 percent, with no cliff and no vesting, and the remaining 18 percent is an ecosystem reserve the Variational Foundation allocates at its discretion.
- Genesis airdrop to points holders 32%
- Ecosystem reserve (Foundation) 18%
- Team and investors 50%
Variational also says it intends to direct 100 percent of revenue that reaches its treasury to VAR buybacks and burns. The Foundation keeps the right to change that policy, so it is a stated intention rather than a rule written into the token.
How the points pay, and what it costs
The weekly amount is fixed, which makes each week its own pool. A trader who is active in a quiet week takes a larger slice of that week's 150,000 points than the same activity would earn in a busy one. The company has not published the criteria that turn activity into points, the total points issued so far or how many wallets hold at least one, so no per-point value can be derived from official data.
Perps trading on Arbitrum earns points.
Pro rata across active users each week.
32% genesis share, fully unlocked.
Deadline to be announced.
Variational is a well-funded venue by the standards of this board. The Block reported a $50 million Series A on May 20, 2026, led by Dragonfly with Bain Capital Crypto and Coinbase Ventures, which took total funding to $60.3 million after a $10.3 million seed round led by Bain. Omni offers perpetual futures with no trading fee, and trades settle against a counterparty vault called the Omni Liquidity Provider through a request-for-quote system. Its first real-world asset markets were gold, silver, copper and oil.
This is not a free airdrop. Points come from trading on a leveraged venue, so the capital at risk is the position itself, and a liquidation costs more than any plausible allocation returns. Our farming guide argues for sizing such positions as trades you would hold anyway, with points as a tiebreaker. The venue competes with Hyperliquid and with smaller perp DEX programs such as Brownian, which also promises a Q4 token.
We rate the entry confirmed because the project itself published the allocation and the quarter. Confirmed does not mean dated: Q4 runs to December 31, and Variational has given no day. Our tokenomics guide explains why a 32 percent unlocked share at TGE is also 32 percent of supply that can be sold on day one.
Two things would change this page. The first is an exact TGE date, a claim window and the total supply, which would turn the percentages into token counts. The second is any change to the points formula or the weekly amount, which Variational has said it reserves the right to make. We could not read the official X post directly in our check, so a detail posted only there may be missing from this page.
How to position yourself
- Take part only if you already trade perps. Variational's app is Omni on Arbitrum, reached from variational.io. Fund it with capital you can afford to lose, since points come from trading activity on a leveraged venue.
- Earn points from activity in the app. Variational distributes 150,000 points a week to the community until the TGE, so late entrants dilute into a shrinking window rather than a fixed pool.
- Do not chase the minimum. One point qualifies for the genesis airdrop, but the allocation is pro rata to points, so a token-dust wallet earns token dust.
- Claim only from a link published by Variational's official site or X account after the TGE is announced. Unclaimed VAR is burned, so a claim deadline will matter, and any claim page before the TGE is a scam.
Reality check None of these steps guarantee an allocation. Teams change criteria late, add anti-sybil filters, and sometimes never ship a token. Only spend time and gas you are fine writing off.
