Abstract will shut down on December 15 and never launched a token

Igloo Inc., the company behind Pudgy Penguins, announced on October 6, 2026 that Abstract, its Ethereum layer 2, will shut down on December 15. The chain never launched a token, and coverage of the announcement reports no plan for its XP. Users must bridge their funds out before the deadline or lose access to them.

Where it stands

Decrypt reported that Igloo announced the closure on X on October 6. Some outlets dated their reports October 7. Abstract's migration page, checked on October 13, says the chain shuts down on December 15 and that users who have not moved assets by then lose access to their funds. The Migration Hub is the primary route. The native bridge adds a delay of about three hours, BlockchainGamer reported, and the page lists Stargate, Relay and Jumper as alternatives.

The team warned about impersonators, fake migration sites and fake direct messages, Decrypt said. A shutdown is a good moment for phishing, because users are hunting for the right link under a deadline.

Igloo said a chain focused only on consumer crypto is not sustainable on its own. Decrypt listed the reasons: a limited DeFi ecosystem, thin liquidity, little institutional crossover and a smaller budget than rivals. Igloo CEO Luca Netz said the company lost tens of millions of dollars funding the chain, BlockchainGamer reported. Decrypt counted more than 325 million transactions, about $6 billion of DEX volume, $40 million of ecosystem revenue and over 4 million wallets.

Decrypt noted that Abstract is the second Ethereum layer 2 to announce a shutdown within days, after Blast. Bitcoin.com reported that monthly revenue peaked near $795,000 in May 2026 and fell to about $121,000 in September.

Reports disagree on how much value is still on the chain. Bitcoin.com put TVL at $8.4 million, while UseTheBitcoin cited about $42 million at the time of writing. Check a live tracker for the current figure before relying on either.

Games built on Abstract, including YGG Play, Pudgy Party, Gigaverse and Cambria, must move to other chains, BlockchainGamer said. Netz said Igloo will put all its focus on Pudgy Penguins, its NFTs and PENGU.

What the XP program was

Abstract ran one of the most gamified points programs in crypto. Account abstraction let users create a wallet from an email address, and XP came from trading, gaming, voting on the Discover tab and general app use, and the leaderboard updated every Monday, according to MEXC's April guide. Flash badges expired within days, weekly badges reset, and secret badges hid inside apps. A 30-day voting streak unlocked a permanent XP multiplier, and PENGU holders received weekly multipliers in three tiers, from 88,888 to 8,888,888 PENGU.

MEXC's guide said XP was expected to determine an allocation when a token eventually launched. No official TGE date was ever set. Netz said a token only works if something drives demand to it, and that Igloo rejected a token launch as a way to recover losses.

Risks and what to do now

There is nothing left to farm. Leave time to migrate, because the native bridge adds a delay and a stuck transaction near the deadline would be hard to fix.
